OLED vs QLED at every size
Where the premium grows.
| Size | OLED tier (typical) | QLED Mini-LED tier (typical) | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| 55" | Around $1,100-$2,000 | Around $700-$1,400 | Both excellent. Pick OLED for dark rooms, QLED for bright. |
| 65" | Around $1,500-$3,000 | Around $900-$1,800 | Both excellent. Same logic, slightly bigger premium. |
| 75" | Around $2,500-$4,500 | Around $1,400-$2,500 | OLED premium is large. QLED Mini-LED is the practical pick for most. |
| 77" | Around $3,000-$5,000 | Around $1,800-$2,800 | OLED becomes a luxury at this size. |
| 83-85" | Around $4,500-$7,000 | Around $2,200-$3,500 | QLED is the practical answer unless budget is unlimited. |
| 98-100" | Not commonly available | Around $4,000-$7,000 | QLED only. Where Mini-LED genuinely shines. |
Bigger is usually better
When 75 inch QLED beats 55 inch OLED.
Most buyers under-estimate the impact of size on the watching experience. A 75 inch flagship Mini-LED QLED at $1,800 typical delivers more immersion for sports, films, and group viewing than a 55 inch entry OLED at $1,100 typical, despite the OLED having technically better picture quality. If your room is large enough for a 75 inch screen at the right viewing distance, that is usually the better purchase.
The exception is dedicated home-cinema use in a fully controlled dark room. There the OLED contrast advantage matters most, and a 65 inch flagship OLED is the better picture than a 75 inch flagship Mini-LED.
Setup tips
Mounting and placement.
Tip 01
Eye level placement
The lower third of the screen should be at seated eye level. For most living rooms this means the bottom of the screen 30-36 inches off the floor on a stand, or the centre of the screen at around 42-50 inches if wall mounted.
Tip 02
Wall mount above 65 inches
Stands above 65 inches start to look unstable visually. Wall mounting is cleaner and gives you flexibility on height. Use a tilt-mount if your seating is below the TV.
Tip 03
Distance from windows
Avoid placing the TV directly opposite a large window. Glare on any panel washes out HDR; QLED handles it better than OLED but neither is immune.
Tip 04
Bias lighting
An LED strip behind the TV reduces eye fatigue and increases perceived contrast. Worth the $20-$40 on any TV but especially noticeable on OLED.
Tip 05
Speaker compatibility
TVs above 65 inches almost always need a soundbar. Built-in TV speakers cannot fill the room at this scale. Budget around 10-20 percent of the TV cost for a soundbar.
Tip 06
Cable management
Wall-mounted TVs need an in-wall power solution or a cable channel cover. Plan this before mounting; retrofitting is awkward.

Frequently asked.
What is the right TV size for my room?+
The SMPTE 30-degree field of vision guideline is a good starting point. For 4K content at typical viewing distances: 55 inches at 6-8 feet, 65 inches at 7-9 feet, 75 inches at 9-11 feet, 85 inches at 11-13 feet. Most viewers under-buy on size and regret it within a few months. Going one size up from your initial impulse is usually correct.
At what size is OLED still worth it?+
55 and 65 inches, comfortably. The OLED premium over flagship Mini-LED is around $400-$700 at these sizes, which is small enough that picture-quality preference should drive the decision. At 75 inches the OLED premium climbs to around $1,100. At 85 inches the OLED price more than doubles, and the QLED value case becomes overwhelming for most buyers.
Should I sit closer for a smaller OLED or further for a bigger QLED?+
Bigger almost always wins for immersion. A 75 inch QLED at 10 feet feels much more cinematic than a 55 inch OLED at 7 feet, even though the OLED has technically better picture quality. For sports, group viewing, and films, immersion matters more than the marginal picture-quality differences.
Is 4K resolution enough at 85 inches?+
Yes for typical viewing distances. At 11-13 feet from an 85 inch screen you cannot see individual pixels. 8K resolution becomes useful only at very close viewing distances (under 8 feet from 85 inches), which is unusual in home setups. Save the 8K premium for actual upgrades to picture quality (Mini-LED zone count, peak brightness).
What about wall-mounting vs stand?+
Wall mount if your stand cannot accommodate the size, or if the room layout puts the TV at the wrong height on a stand. Eye level should hit roughly the lower third of the screen when seated. For 75 inch and above, wall mount is often the cleanest option. Use a flush-style mount on flagship TVs (LG G-series gallery, Samsung Frame) designed for it.
